Art in Dialogue: Beth Campbell

Beth Campbell’s art flows freely between text-based drawings, sculptures, and architectural interventions. Often involving duplication, mirroring and multiplication, Campbell choreographs spaces, crafts uncanny objects, and maps futures.  She will give a brief overview and discuss the conceptual evolution of her work, the significance of the experience of the viewer and various themes embedded in the work including future possibilities, coincidence, anxiety, perception and story-telling.

Beth Campbell has held over two dozen solo shows at galleries and institutions including the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT (2017); Kate Werble Gallery New York, NY (2017, 2012); by Anne Mosseri-Marlio Gallerie, Basel, Switzerland (2014); Nicole Klagsbrun, New York, NY (2008, 2005); The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (2007); Public Art Fund, New York, NY (2007).

In addition, she has shown at various national and international museums including the Manifesta 7- Trento, Italy, Carnegie Museum of Art, Greater NY- PS1 Contemporary Art Center, Mercosul Biennial- Porto Alegre, Brazil, Ok Center for Contemporary Art- Linz, Austria, Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery. Her work is included in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and Minneapolis Institute of Art. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Memorial Fellowship, and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.

Art in Dialogue is a series of interdisciplinary conversations between members of the university and the wider community - reflecting the ways in which their work is dynamically engaged with other fields of inquiry.
