Join us for a professional development workshop designed to help visual artists refine two essential aspects of their practice: writing a powerful artist statement and photographing their work for exhibition submissions and grant applications.
During the artist statement segment, participants will learn how to clearly express their creative vision, process, and inspiration. We will cover the key components of an effective statement and provide tips for writing with clarity and impact. Artists will also explore how to tailor their statements to different contexts and audiences, ensuring their work resonates with curators, jurors, and funders.
In the photography and documentation segment, artists will gain practical knowledge on how to capture high-quality images of their work using their smartphone. From lighting and composition to framing and post-editing, this hands-on session will guide participants through the process of documenting their artwork for professional presentation. Artists will also receive advice on how to organize and prepare images for submission platforms, ensuring that their work is showcased in the best possible light.
Whether you're preparing for exhibitions, residencies, or grant opportunities, this workshop will provide essential skills to enhance your professional portfolio and make a lasting impression.

Holly Fasching '26 is a nature photographer from Eastern Pennsylvania. Her favorite subjects are those with wings, but recently, she has explored astro photography and nightscapes. Holly is most at home with a pack on her back, boots on her feet, and her camera in hands.
Holly believes that photography has a way of reconnecting people with nature; we seem to have forgotten that we are just as much a part of the environment as those with feathers and fur. She hopes to show people what these creatures and their habitats mean to her and why they're worth loving – and protecting. Visit Holly's website for more information.
