LUAG Community Workshop: The Artivist: Big Feelings for Big Change in Our World Today

March 28, 2026 11:00AM to 12:30PM
LUAG Main & Lower Galleries

with Story Doctor and Friends

Join LUAG for a storytelling and art workshop designed to help children explore how their feelings can inspire positive action. Centered on Nikkolas Smith’s picture book The Artivist, this interactive program invites young participants to consider how art can be a powerful tool for expression, empathy, and change.

We will begin with a shared reading of The Artivist, using its themes to spark imaginative drama activities that build confidence, compassion, and creative voice. Participants will then explore works on view in LUAG’s galleries through guided looking, sketching, and reflective conversation. Inspired by the story and their gallery experience, children will collaborate on a mural that expresses their own visions for art-driven change.

The book gently introduces real issues shaping our world today—including housing insecurity, climate change, gun violence, and human rights—and creates space for children to reflect on the “big feelings” these topics may bring up. Through storytelling, movement, and artmaking, this workshop supports children in expressing those feelings in safe, constructive, and meaningful ways.

Please register in advance. Space is limited.

If you require assistance filling out this form, prefer to share your registration information via email or phone, or have questions, concerns, or any accessibility needs, please email Elise at ejs421@lehigh.edu or call 610-758-6882.
