Notations: Doing Democracy through Creative Writing

As the 2020 election comes to a close there is still a lot of work to be done, join students, faculty, and staff read their own original and their favorite prose, song, and poetry about the struggle and the beauty of living in a democratic society. We will end the session with a short prompt and viewing of a work from the LUAG collection to spark insight, ideas, and action about activism, citizenship, and demoracy. Sponsored by Lehigh University Art Galleries, Lehigh University Libraries, and the Creative Writing Program. Full title/description: Willie Ricks was one of SNCC's great stump speakers, capable of getting great emotional responses from a crowd. During the Meredith March in Mississippi, where King and Stokely Carmichael marched side by side, it was Ricks who first unleashed the "Black Power" cry. Here he speaks in Atlanta, 1964.
