Marcelo Montealegre (Puerto Montt, Chile, 1936) is a photojournalist who has lived in New York since the late 1960s. He has reported for Life Magazine, Newsweek, Der Spiegel, Zigzag, and El Clarín, and has served as an audiovisual producer for National Public Radio (NPR), as well as an educator and freelance photographer. Photographing figures such as artists, musicians, and politicians, including Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, and Salvador Allende, after the 1973 coup in Chile, he documented the political, cultural, and social uprisings of Latin American communities in New York to denounce Chile's brutal regime.
