Lehigh University's Art & Climate Change First Year Seminar visiting artist lecture series discusses the intersection between art and climate change and the important role of contemporary visual artists' creative practice. The events are sponsored by Art Architecture and Design, College of Arts and Sciences, Earth & Environmental Science, and Lehigh University Art Galleries.

This event is part of LUAG's Art in Dialogue, a series of interdisciplinary conversations between members of the university and the wider community - reflecting the ways in which their work is dynamically engaged with other fields of inquiry.

Jaime Alvarez is an artist born and raised in Puerto Rico. He received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2001, and an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2005. Jaime’s personal work revolves around documenting his community and the ongoing change; exploring the power of objects, and how people tie sentimental value to them; and most recently attention to what our status on earth is like.

For an upcoming exhibition, Jaime, along with two other artists, has been commissioned to make work that relates to Philadelphia’s history, present, and future, through the lens of sustainability. For his part, Jaime has been tasked to reflect on the future of Philadelphia’s sustainability, and create work on this theme.

Commercially he works with artists and institutions documenting work, for clients such as LACMA, The Print Center, Penn State, University of Pennsylvania, Tuft The World, Mark Stockton, Cindy Stockton Moore, Deirdre Murphy, Lewis Colburn, Keith Warren Greiman, Amze Emmons, and more.
