An engaging lecture and discussion centered on Seeds of Liberation, a thought-provoking installation currently on view at LUAG as part of the Art, Architecture and Design Faculty Exhibition. This collaborative work by Christina Chi Zhang, Dean Caivano, and Clare Fentress examines prison abolition through the lens of care, community, and collective action.

The installation unearths stories and symbols of liberation through three "seeds": the history of Anna d’Angola and her land in Manhattan, moments of humanity within the walls of incarceration at the Central California Women’s Facility, and seed bombs that invite participants to imagine a future without prisons.

Together, the three seeds inspire reflection on the transformation of carceral landscapes and the possibilities of liberation through care and imagination. Through a combination of architectural models, interactive components, and poetic storytelling, Seeds of Liberation challenges visitors to consider how the logic of incarceration can be dismantled and replaced with systems rooted in humanity and equity.
